US NAVY Purchases 200 Gage Armada Digitizers for Automated Testing of F-18 Fighter Aircraft
"We chose the Gage Armada Digitizer to replace the Tektronix 7612 Digitizer
to test F/A-18 aircraft both on shore sites and deployed carriers. Only Gage offered a complete hardware and software solution
which saved the US Navy over three million dollars.
After careful and thorough testing of several PC Digitizers from different manufacturers,
we chose the Gage Armada for our Navy Test Stations. I was impressed with the speed and quality of the instrument that Gage delivered."

Montreal, Canada ( November 1, 1999) - Gage Applied Sciences Inc. , the leading manufacturer of Advanced Instruments, announces the receipt of a $1.4 million contract by U.S. Navy for 200 units of Gage Armada waveform digitizer to replace aging Tektronix 7612D models used for ship-board testing.
Facing an increased number of failures of the 7612D digitizer, the North Island branch of U.S. Navy started a Logistical Engineering Change Program (LECP) two years ago. After thorough research of the available technologies, PC based systems were identified as the right solution ahead of VXI or VME type systems.
After LECP was approved, US Navy invited vendors of PC based digitizers to a pre-award qualification test. This relatively new technique of weeding out phony vendors was devised by Contracts officers to narrow the field to only those who had a reasonable chance of meeting the required specifications. "Serious vendors such as Gage prefer such qualification tests. It was a wise decision and goes a long way towards making COTS purchasing a more effective tool for the tax-payer" , said Muneeb Khalid, President of Gage Applied Sciences.
Pre-qualification tests were conducted in July 1999 and Gage's Armada digitizer was qualified within a few hours of verification. This was in sharp contrast to many man-months spent by other vendors in reaching the same goal.
The awarding of the contract became a relatively easy decision, since Gage's price tag for the complete digitizer system came in almost 50% below Navy's expectations and far lower than bids from other vendors.
Deliveries for these Armada digitizers will start in January 2000.
