Montreal, Canada ( March 30, 2000) -
Gage Applied Sciences Inc. , the leading manufacturer of high quality, high speed Advanced Instruments introduces 2 GigaByte On-Board Acquisition Memory for PCI bus CompuScope A/D and Scope cards . The memory can accept A/D data at sample rates up to 500 MS/s into 2 GigaBytes of on-board memory. This advancement makes data capture into GigaByte sized buffers as easy as conventional captures into MegaByte sized on-board buffers.

Product Description
Gage is the World leader in high speed, high resolution PC-based A/D and Scope cards capable of digitizing into deep on-board acquisition memory. For years, Gage's CompuScope digitizer cards have been available with up to 16 MegaSamples of on-board memory. Gage has now increased this limit by a hundredfold and now offers CompuScope cards with up to 2 GigaBytes of on-board acquisition memory.
CompuScope Models which are available with the ultra-deep memory include:
- CompuScope 8500 , an 8 bit, 500 MS/s A/D & Scope Card
- CompuScope 12100 , a 12 bit, 100 MS/s A/D & Scope Card
- CompuScope 1250 , a 12 Bit, 50 MS/s A/D & Scope Card
- CompuScope 1602 , a 16 bit, 2.5 MS/s A/D & Scope Card
- CompuScope 3200 , 32 bit, 100 MHz Digital Input Card
Capture into the Ultra Deep memory proceeds with no intervention by the CPU and imposes no traffic on the PCI bus. Consequently, the user can analyze, process or display data with impunity while the CompuScope is capturing completely autonomously into its Ultra Deep on-board memory.
Gage's Windows drivers completely manage the Ultra Deep memory so that it is presented to the application writer just like conventional on-board memory. Consequently, with new drivers, all existing CompuScope application software is instantly upgradeable for use with Ultra Deep memory.
Long Capture Times at High Sampling Rates
Ultra-Deep on-board acquisition memory allows a CompuScope to capture at high speeds for an extremely long period of time. For instance, a CompuScope 8500 with 2 Gigabytes of on-board acquisition memory can capture at 500 MegaSamples per second for an entire four seconds. A CompuScope 12100 with 1 Gigabyte of on-board acquisition memory can capture at 10 MegaSamples per second for 100 seconds. Never has capture at such high speeds for such a long time been so easy and affordable.
Segmentation of Ultra Deep Memory
Ultra deep acquisition memory solves applications where continuous capture for an extended time period is required. Examples include characterization of digital TV, network or any other communication signal. By contrast, applications such as RADAR, Ultrasound or LIDAR often require the capture of a large number of short but rapidly repeating signals. For instance, an ultrasonic scanning system may require the capture of many thousand signals of a few thousand points each without missing a single one. These applications can also exploit Ultra Deep On-Board Acquisition Memory by using it in a segmented fashion, called our Multiple Record Mode.
Fast Data Throughput
The CompuScope cards take full advantage of the fast data throughput offered by the PCI bus. Using Bus Mastering, data can be transferred from the Deep on-board memory to the PC's memory at rates up to 100 MB/s - more than 100 times faster than the ISA bus and more than 1000 times faster than GPIB! For instance, the entire memory contents of the CompuScope 8500 with 2 Gigabyte memory can be downloaded to PC RAM in only 20 seconds.
Compatible with GageScope Software
CompuScope cards with Ultra Deep Memory are fully supported by the powerful GageScope software which enables users to operate the card like an oscilloscope without writing a single line of programming code. It allows users to view, manipulate, store, analyze and print data and to convert it to an ASCII format for use in spreadsheets and mathematical software packages.
Combined with GageScope, a CompuScope card can act as a Digital Oscilloscope , a wide dynamic range FFT Analyzer , a Transient Recorder with time and date stamp capabilities or a Waveform Analyzer .
Advantages Over Traditional DSOs and Transient Recorders
CompuScopes with Deep On-Board Acquisition Memory have several key advantages over traditional multi-MegaHertz data acquisition using Digital Storage Oscilloscopes and Transient Recorders under GPIB or IEEE 488 control, as the table below demonstrates:
