Programmable Digitizer Extends the Life of Hybrid Test System for F/A-18 Fighter Aircrafts

Montreal, Canada ( May 22, 2003) - Gage Applied Technologies, a leading manufacturer of high performance digitizers based on the personal computer platform, announces the release of ARMADA - North Island Digitizer that replaces the aging Tektronix 7612D digitizers used in depot and ship-board test systems used for the support of F/A-18 fighter aircrafts.
Gage Applied worked closely with the engineering teams at the North Island facility of US Navy in San Diego, CA to ensure that the functionality and characteristics required for the AN/USM-484 were met. A specific Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP) was developed to verify the system prior to deployment.
The unit consists of a Celeron 566 MHz processor, a PCI bus GPIB card and one of Gage's high speed digitizer cards capable of sampling at 200 MS/s. The operation of the unit is completely integrated and transparent to the user.
One of the requirements of the US Navy's Logistical Engineering Change Program (LECP) was that the Armada units should be 100% hardware, software and mechanically compatible with the 7612D, so deployment can be done with no more than a set of screwdrivers, which the user can use to remove the old digitizer and insert the new Armada Digitizer in the HTS rack. Gage succeeded in this task with flying colors.
"We chose the Gage Armada Digitizer to replace the Tektronix 7612 Digitizer to test F/A-18 aircraft both on shore sites and deployed carriers. Only Gage offered a complete hardware and software solution, which saved the US Navy over three million dollars", said Jason Day, a Navy engineer who spent over a year qualifying the Armada digitizer for deployment.
Gage has already supplied hundreds of units to the US Navy and Air Force, as well as to allied military forces around the world and the units have been operational for over two years.
While the ARMADA - North Island Digitizer was designed specifically for the HTS, the unit may also be used for form fit and function replacements of the Tektronix 7612 in similar test systems still in operation, resulting in net cost savings and a new lease on life for legacy systems.
