Q. What is the maximum pulse repeat frequency (PRF) I can expect from CompuScope 82G? My radar application cannot live with the slow transfer rates of traditional oscilloscopes.

A. The new CompuScope 82G v1.2A features full bus mastering and, therefore, can provide very fast data throughput, enabling you to acquire at a very high PRF.

The PRF you can achieve depends on the following parameters:

Data transfer rate is determined by the bus mastering capability of the CompuScope 82G. Benchmarks show 80 MB/s throughput under Windows for v1.2A and later versions of hardware.

Re-arm time for CompuScope 82G is in the order of a few microseconds if "Power On" mode is used. If "Power Save" mode is used, this number stretches into many milliseconds.

CPU speed has some impact on the PRF, as a faster CPU can take care of the overhead much faster. However, actual data transfer rate is not affected by CPU speed.

Record length and PRF have an almost inversely proportional relationship. As expected, the longer the record length, the slower the achievable PRF.
