Q. What is the sub-channel feature of GageScope and how can it help me analyze signals more efficiently?

A. A sub-channel, as defined in GageScope, is a subset of a signal acquired from acquisition hardware.

A sub-channel can be defined by specifying signal features such as low-to-high edges, peaks, troughs etc. or by specifying a time offset from the trigger point.

A sub-channel creates a new channel in a GageScope display by extracting the relevant points from the original signal. This sub-channel can now be used for analysis or storage, as per the application requirement.

For example, it is possible to capture the read signal for an entire rotation of a disk drive and define a sub-channel that extracts the 2nd sector.

Similarly, an ultrasound reflection can easily be extracted even if the return signal is not fixed in time. This fairly complicated task can be accomplished simply by defining the sub-channel to start from the second peak.
