Customer Case

A customer who designs and develops turbo-machinery uses automated data-acquisition and reduction routines. The complete system can sequentially scan up to 144 pressures, 40 electrical signals, and 50 temperatures. It can also acquire and analyze dynamic pressure/vibration signals as well as the scanned steady-state data.

They do precise pneumatic traversing for high-performance radial-flow stages. Using a computer-controlled data-acquisition system, the detailed internal pressures and temperatures can be acquired and processed. Laboratory data files are generated, which can be directly used to process the impeller-cover static pressure data. The data can also be automatically processed to generate full performance maps and detailed component aerodynamic performance parameters.

Their dynamic rig, rotating at 1,800 to 20,000 rpm, uses digital magnetic bearings to accurately control a tested component's position and vibration, while documenting the fluid forces that the movement or the operating load creates. Impellers, bearings, seals, couplings, or entire stages may be tested.

Their test laboratories contain instrumentation from classical pneumatic and thermal probes up to more sophisticated anemometers, high-frequency pressure transducers, and proximity probes. They have data-acquisition systems, laboratory software, traversing equipment, instrumentation devices, and calibration services for various pressure and temperature probes.

Their current requirement is to modify a vibration analysis system which monitors jitter and amplitude changes of high-speed pulse trains. The data acquisition requirement is to digitize 2 to 4 analog signals at up to 25 MS/s with 12-bit vertical resolution or more. Data record lengths range from 30 to 300 kiloSamples. Sequential data records are saved to disk for post-processing offline.
